HARC 2008 !!!

Graduates and Interested Supporters:
HARC this year has had some alterations, brought on by circumstances with our District and the economy that have forced us to look seriously at the feasibility of an extended overnight trip.
Specifically, the Jordan District was informed about our HARC Camp via outside contacts two summers ago. We had run HARC through private insurance since 1984 and felt covered and appropriate, but Jordan District issued a position statement that we would be required to file an Overnight Travel permit to go, and a side problem with that is required commercial travel TO and FROM the site. We did this for one year and had to assess an additional $60 fee to each athlete to cover this, all the while driving up empty vehicles behind the bus for travel while there. Simply put, it was ludicrous.
Secondly, the fuel costs of the trip would also add additional fees to what at one time was a $60 charge for 5 days. We do not want to contribute to what is perceived by parents as continued gouging from high school entities for what is a 'free education', despite the obvious financial needs the program has.
This year, we are conducting a 'local' HARC. Travel is still done to altitude every morning, but we are taking the entire team as opposed to the varsity. The JVs are leaving at 11:00 while the varsity gets a chance to bond in a lunch, activity, and afternoon run.
The RACE will be at the Region Course, 4350 S 1300 E, on Friday, August 1st, at 8:30am. We invite all graduates, supporters, and interested parties to attend the race and get a time on the 5k course that has been a challenge for our athlete for two decades!
