Bingham Lady Miners Cross Country---USA #1 for 1999 !!!!!!! |
---
The year has been full of wonderment . . .from Memorial Day and the start of summer miles, a renewed effort to achieve their final goal as a team, the sacrifices made by young and older athletes alike, through Vale OR, the incredible trip to Charlotte NC and the Great American Race set up by Rick Hill, a perfect Region season, a 19-point State Meet, and the final work we all had to do to get ready for an outrageously successful FL-West, capped off by Laura's wonderful race in Orlando.
We have all come so far. . .learned so much . . .and given our best to each other, our school, and our sport. Each girl on our team will carry with her for the rest of her life the title of 'National Champion', but perhaps none more so than Laura, Lisa, Jackie, Jess, Charity, Stacie, Lynette, and Angie. They forged a bond at the campfires of HARC and battled through adversities to excel on each coast of this country, defeating the very best on their home turf, remaining not only undefeated, but also by all statistics . . .the fastest high school team of all history. Noted cross country historian Doug Speck, a national correspondent for the sport, has now determined that the times run by our top-5 at FL-West in Mt. SAC also bettered the previous national best team time, set in 1983 . . . on the same course. Look for his article on the internet soon. They are simply the best that has ever been.
You all have been a part of this super year for this amazing group of girls. So many people have done so many things . . . large and small . . .to help them achieve and perform at a level many have thought impossible. To all of you . . .our team and community gives its gratitude for your support in all ways.
Ladies . . .after all is done for this year, the satisfaction that remains is incorporated in one simple idea that is missing in so many aspects of our society . . .you did your job and did it well. But always remember, in this sport and in every part of every day for the rest of your lives . . . the trial never ends.
Now we get set up for a thunderous track season . . . and then it starts all over again with the toughest girls in the country . . . on Memorial Day, 2000.
A wonderful job, ladies . . . . . . . . . . . . .
