  1. View competition as a challenge or threat?
  2. Athletes tend to approach a challenge and avoid a threat.
  3. Psychological hardiness = Commit, Control, Challenge (yourself).
  4. Athletes should avoid conscious thought immediately prior to a race.
  5. Develop a pre-race routine.
  6. FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real
  7. Sense of control = Through preparation.
    1. Perceived exertion creates doubt in yourself. Control it.
  8. The great ones go to the 'well' and win ugly.
  9. Mental skills = Concentration / Confidence / Composure
  10. In practice = Be physically passive and mentally active.
  11. In racing = Be physically active and mentally passive.
  12. Debrief each race with your coach after competition.
