Laura holds off the nation's top juniors (sub-20) including college freshmen and former Footlocker champions to dominate the US Trials (top 6 qualify as the USA Team) and wins the race by 12 seconds, pulling away in the last 1000m of the 6000m race. Windy, soggy, and cold conditions predominated as Laura broke from the chase pack with Stanford freshman (and 1999 FL-Winner) Victoria Chang and Alicia Craig, the top US junior in the mile and the Wyoming XC Champion. Craig drops first with 1000m to go and Laura pulls away up the final hill for a substantial win.
This further establishes Laura's credentials as the top USA distance junior of 2001 coming on the heels of her 3rd place (and top returner) finish at FL-Nationals in December.
